YWAMers, mainly from Switzerland, have been coming to Mauritius for years through personal contacts with some church leaders and other local Christian organisations. During the first Inter-Island games in Reunion Island some Mauritian youth even worked and got some training with YWAM. Some YWAM leaders saw the potential of having a base here and started sowing towards this end. Relationships were established, DTS teams were sent over mainly from Switzerland, France, South-Africa and Australia, and the vision was shared with their local people to pray about. In April 2002, a team was set up to put up a structure so as to co-ordinate the work for a better use of visiting teams to make a better impact.
