Mauritius has a 'Rainbow' population of about 1,185,000 inhabitants:

66 % Indians
27,5 % Creoles
3 % Chinese
3 % Europeans
0,5 % Others

Those from Indian background are predominant (51%), followed by the general population (African & European background, 26%), Muslims (21%) and Chinese (2%). In the past years there has been a significant increase of inter-ethnic marriages due to the increased number of converts to Christianity. English is the official language, however the most common spoken languages are Creole, French, Bhojpuri, and Mandarin.
