Day 5, Annual Africa Leadership Team Meeting in Pretoria, South Africa.

Jean-Patrick led us in devotions and worship. At one point Anke spoke the words “The tomb is empty”. On several occasions during the morning, various ALT members referred to this perspective of hope.
We prayed for
- the University of the Nations in Africa, for the Fear of the Lord the beginning of wisdom
- DTS leaders after God’s heart
- New courses relevant to this continent, especially in science, technology and medicines, which bring freedom and answers to diseases and death in Africa
- Creative methods and approaches from within Africa
- New release on Community Development Schools
- Leadership Training
- Knowing the seasons, also regarding the launching of new courses
- Openness towards truth and change
- Vision and seeds not to be killed
- Repentance
- The spirit of hospitality
We prayed against
- Manipulation, domination, control, withholding of information
- Jealousy, envy, greed, poverty a feeling there is not enough
Scripture reading: Is 60 Arise, shine. For thy light has come.
We thanked God for being our father. In Africa we need fathers. We prayed against the “orphan spirit” and brother rising against brother. Instead we prayed for strong relationships across the continents. We remembered that God is our provider and that Africa’s greatest resource is its people. “You know that somebody is a father or mother when they have nurtured something and it has brought forth fruit”, said Kobus van Niekerk. There is a need for us to become “fathers and mothers” to those who look for guidance.
We felt that God had met us during that morning.

Garry elaborated about the need for us to be leaders, rather than managers. He took some time to explain the difference, i.e. Managers concern themselves to do things right, while leaders concern themselves with doing the right things. Leadership is about inspiring vision and creativity, while management is more about the present, efficiency, function, the control of direction.
Before discussing matters of business, like dates for upcoming meetings, we noted aspects of our corporate vision for Africa. This list will be reviewed at a later time.
The day closed with a little party in Elisabeth’s honour. She will be leaving Africa to get married and set up life in Australia.
