Primary Health Care
The clinic Set against the magnificent mountain, Omunda Yevambo is the local clinic--a neat grass hut, two minutes walk away from the chickens and grindstones of the communal food storage. It is run by Inacio Fio, who did a Primary Health Care Course with a team from Youth With A Mission, Brazil, as well as a government course for Health Promoters.
A sick person is often carried for an entire day, down narrow mountain paths, to get better qualified help. Inacio sees cases of tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases, malaria, respiratory problems, burns, worms, amoebas, bilharzia, cataracts, polio and leprosy (12 cases presently). People come from as far as 50 km away to get help. They reciprocate with beans, corn and other produce, which is collected and exchanged for cattle. The cattle are sold in the valley and with the money, Inacio replaces his meagre stock of medical supplies. The 'cash register'
When Inacio built the first ever latrine near his house, it attracted both wonder and curiosity. The local pastor built the second and today a local family is building the third. Inacio is training local Healthcare Workers. As the people live mainly on milk and meat they lack primarily vegetables and fruit. Upon first treatment of a sexually transmitted disease the patient is told how to avoid reinfection. Second and consequent treatments are becoming more and more expensive. The people appreciate and agree with the policy.

Nose bleeds occur often and still await a medical diagnosis.
