Adult Literacy
When Idalina and Inacio Fio came to live amongst the Mukuando of Omunda Yevambo, less than five local people could read or write elementary words. They met with the only Christians in the tribe, an older couple, to pray. The wife, Guilhermina, mother of 6 children, asked Idalina to teach her reading the Bible after God helped her see. Idalina taught her one word at the time--using the Bible as the only text book.

Once Guilhermina could read she was asked to become part of the church leadership. Idalina and her husband Inacio train a group of leaders to become independent of them. They rejoice with Guilhermina now often being invited to preach, even in other churches.

Several of the men now read the Bible. They all were taught by Inacio Fio. Until the Bible is translated into Olukuando, the Umbundu Bible will need to do.
