The mother of these children left the house in 1999 to join another man. She initally took little Delfina with her. Dioniza and Joao looked after their ill father until he died in May 2002, at a holding camp for ex-soldiers. They travelled great distances on foot to the city, to get help burrying their dead father. An elderly widow is presently looking after the children until we can take them in shortly. Until now neither child has been to school.
