Developing Nutrition Centres in the Villages

At the beginning of 2005, the rate of malnutrition around Niakhar was very high. As a result, many children's physical and mental growth was stunted.

YWAMers went door-to-door in four villages, weighing all children under three years of age. They identified mothers of well-nourished children and began demonstrating how to cook locally available food items which are rich in protein, calories and vitamins. Right away these mothers passed on their newly learned knowledge to the mothers of malnourished children. This process is on-going.

The healthcare workers, who worked with this prototype project are trained to multiply this model in other areas.
