Long before Ferdinand Rahve Ndong became the Co-leader of the Niakhar Base in Senegal, he used to associate with YWAMers at the Base, helping out occasionally and being friendly. He then became involved in house and prayer groups in the villages. He translated and helped with practical things.
In 1999, he completed his Discipleship Training School there and afterwards went on staff. He has a natural talent with children and youth.
He did his School of Evangelism in Bamako, Mali, 1992, and returned with a passion for children's ministry.
In 2001, Ferdinand became a student in the 'Introductions to Primary Healthcare School', in Niakhar.
The geographical boundaries of his work have increased beyond Niakhar, and so Ferdinand has multiplied the children's ministry, by training others. As a result there are now about 20 church-based children's groups around Niakhar (such as Lutheran, Assemblies of God, Pentecostal groups) with various co-ordinators involved on a national level.
Besides his academic coaching of High School students and co-ordinating evangelism clubs amongst Catholics (training, discipling, supervision), he still finds opportunities for another passion - evangelism and seeing cultures redeemed.
"Traditionally people used poems and music to honour people," he says. "We are tapping into those talents for evangelism."
Ferdinand is co-ordinating the efforts of several people, teaching them biblical truths so they can be more effective.
