In February Pete Thompson and Linda Connorton of the International DTS Centre visited Madagascar to hold a workshop for DTS leaders and base leaders seeking to establish and improve Discipleship Training Schools in their locations.

30 YWAMers from around the island were joined by a leader from Seychelles as together they worked through the foundational aspects of what makes DTS strong and effective. These staff members are instrumental in running 4 DTSs every year, an opportunity to impact the lives of many young people of the Indian Ocean Islands.

Pete Thompson, who is based in South Africa, travels throughout Africa, teaching DTS principles and intentionally strengthening this foundational YWAM school. He comments: “I love to see leaders get hold of the idea that DTS is about more than teaching people to keep a series of rules; it’s about discipling people and seeing hearts change.”

Hery Ramanantsialonina, National Director of YWAM Madagascar, expressed appreciation for the resources Pete passed on to them, noting that they could now use those materials to reproduce the workshop for staff who had missed it.

For those staff members not directly involved in running DTSs this UofN workshop is still tremendously helpful. It serves as a reminder that DTS is YWAM’s key for passing on the genetic code of the mission, communicating our corporate values not just through teaching but through modeling a lifestyle. And that is something not just for the DTS staff but for all of us to remember!
