Update from the Africa Leadership Team, Friday, May 25, 2007

It was fantastic to see the way the African leaders were embraced by the staff at Hopeland, the Jinja base close to where their meetings are being held; and to see how they in turn embraced the staff. What a wonderful reminder that YWAM Africa is indeed a family - scattered across the continent and varied in race, language and background, but a family nevertheless. What is it that connects us? The shared value of hospitality was clearly in evidence as everyone shared a meal together, just one of our foundational values that makes YWAM recognizable wherever you do in the world. Later we all worshipped together, sitting in a circle underneath the trees. An African woman played her drum alongside a Tongan guy, just another picture of the unity we experience even in our diversity.

As Kobus van Niekerk greeted the staff and Sam Kisolo welcomed the leaders I looked around the circle at those gathered: young international volunteers straight from DTS sat alongside experienced staff who had worked for many years in various challenging situations. I was struck again by how wonderfully unique our family is: we appreciate one another for our differences and we honor one another, not for our positions but for godly character evidenced in our lives. May today be an opportunity for you to take a fresh look at your YWAM family, to appreciate the way God has brought us together and to be thankful for His hand in creating the special mosaic of lives that we call YWAM Africa.
