RECOMMENDED RESOURCES

LOCAL RESOURCES

It is likely that you can get hold of HIV/AIDS resources locally. It is important for every base in Africa to have information available about HIV and AIDS. Check out local organisations, counseling centres, hospital/clinics or the Ministry of Health for leaflets, training materials or videos that you can look at to get more information about HIV/AIDS. Check for resources in your local language too.

BOOKS

  • 'The Truth about AIDS,' by Dr Patrick Dixon, is an excellent manual on HIV / AIDS including key resources and in depth information about the epidemic, practical guidelines for starting care and prevention projects as well as orphan support, income generation, capacity building, pastoral care etc.
  • 'AIDS and You,' by Dr Patrick Dixon, is a shorter version packed with useful information, ideal for a practical, down-to-earth resource.

Both books available at no cost in bulk for free distribution for organisations operating in the poorest nations. 'AIDS and You' is available in English, French, Luganda, Portuguese and Spanish - with Swahili, Hausa (Nigeria) and other languages in the process of being published.
