| Hope for Africa
Is Africa really a bottomless pit? Angola is said to be the worst place in the world for a child to grow up in. Inacio Canenda, an elite Soldier during the war, is now caring for children in need. He believes Angola will turn around and become the best place for a child to grow up in. Since April 2002, not only houses, roads and bridges are re-built, but also hearts, families and broken relationships. Yes, there is still a long way to go but in the midst of devastation we can have God's picture of Africa: Peace instead of war; sufficient food instead of famine; health instead of disease; education instead of illiteracy; a future and hope instead of exploitation and children trained to kill. There is a price to be paid. Diseases, isolation, the battle for survival, the harshness of a war-torn country. Several YWAMers died in Angola. Their seed fell in the ground--to bear much fruit. Today we see a vibrant ministry amongst abandoned children, young people, the Unreached. Angolan YWAMers take responsibility and ownership for ministry. Their exemplary commitment and sacrifice, married with a jubilant spirit impressed me deeply. Their leadership style is inclusive and participatory, marked by servant hood and sacrifice. Angola is a typical example of what's happening elsewhere in Africa. I am greatly encouraged to continue training and equipping people before, during and after service to see the Glory of God come to Africa, the women released to their rightful place in society and the church, the children growing up in homes and major progress being made to combat famine and disease. |
